Rose Barrowcliffe appointed as inaugural First Nations Advisor to the Queensland State Archives
30 July 2021
Congratulations to Rose Barrowcliffe, who was recently appointed as the inaugural First Nations advisor to the Queensland State Archives. Rose’s appointment was announced in NAIDOC Week 2021, a fitting link between the role of the archives in working to the theme of ‘Heal Country!’ in acknowledgement of the importance of Indigenous voices being heard in the archives.
The announcement of Rose’s advisor role will help build foundations for the support of the ICA’s Tandanya Adelaide Declaration. As the QLD state government noted:
Queensland state archives also established the role to respond to the Tandanya-Adelaide Declaration which challenges archives around the world to include the experiences and perspectives of First Nations people in their collections.
A media release on the historic appointment made by The Honourable Leeanne Enoch, Minister for Communities and Housing, Minister for Digital Economy and Minister for the Arts can be found here.
